Lanark discussion group “Do it for Doddie” by organising a fundraiser event that brought in excess of £18,000.

A fundraiser event staged at Lanark auction market consisted of 289 people seated for dinner, with an auction, raffle, and the guest speaker Rob Wainwright, all in support of My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, which raised a whopping £18,351.51.

On the night, the compare, Robert McKecknie, kept things running, with Archie Hamilton of Lawrie and Symington, auctioning off the raffle and the Pinkerton brothers, Douglas and John keeping the crowd entertained with their duo act of the bagpipes and drums.

On entrance, it was Drew Harvey that piped the crowds in, alongside, a Davidson Animal Feeds lorry, which has the Doddie Weir tartan on the side, and with every 24ton of feeding delivered by the lorry, Davidsons are donating £12 to Doddie Weir.

Also marched out with the tartan was a kid's ride on a tractor and trailer that went to the auction for £750, kindly donated by Bryson Tractors. Another special prize was a bottle of Glenkinchie whiskey, a 16-year-old malt which Doddie Weir picked the cask and there only are 378 bottles available, with the No.159 bottle donated by Diageo and went on to make £650 in the auction.

Chairman of the discussion group, David Cunningham of Walkerdyke commented on the evening: "The generosity of companies and individuals blew me out of the water, it was unbelievable for such a worthy cause, which is unfortunately getting closer to people's doorsteps.

"Doddie put MND research on the map and we wanted to give something back to him, I put it to the committee back at the AGM and everyone supported the idea and followed it through tremendously, it could not have been done without everyone's support."
