A woman who died after she was trampled by cows during a walk with four dogs has been named as Lorna Milward from Meifod.

The 59-year-old was found with serious injuries in a field containing around 40 cows in the Maesmawr area near Guilsfield on the evening of Friday, September 1.

The opening of the inquest heard today (Monday, September 25) that it is unknown how her death occurred.

The assistant coroner for South Wales Central Andrew Moore was told that Ms Milward was found by a slope down the bridleway after walking the dogs in a field that had cows in it.

A pathologist gave a provisional cause of death as multiple traumatic injuries following a post-mortem examination held at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on September 13.

The assistant coroner said: "On the basis of the information provided it is necessary to open an inquest into the matter. Further evidence will be required, and the matter is adjourned, and once evidence is received it will be listed for a further hearing.

"The family and interested persons will be updated.

"I express my condolences to the family and friends of Ms Millward."

Dyfed-Powys Police said the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been notified about a member of the public coming into contact with cattle.

An HSE spokesperson added: “We are aware of this incident and making inquiries.”
