Scottish farmers affected by recent devastating floods can seek assistance from RSABI's £100,000 flooding fund.

The rural charity is offering grants of up to £1,000 per farming business for those who suffered significant losses due to the extreme rainfall and flooding.

Eligible applicants must provide evidence of damage and losses. Farmers facing substantial damage can apply online through RSABI’s website and social media platforms.

The charity is also collaborating with Forage Aid to assess the need for replacement bedding, feed, and forage. Extensive flooding, triggered by record-breaking rainfall, caused severe harm to farmland, crops, and infrastructure.

Carol McLaren, CEO of RSABI, expressed the charity's support for those severely affected and the generosity of fellow farmers offering help.

The Scottish Farmer: Carol McLaren

“The past week has been a very trying one for many farming families in the worst-hit parts of Scotland as they have been trying to recover from one of the greatest sustained periods of heavy rain for decades.  We are launching this fund to show our support to those who have been significantly affected by the flooding.” Ms McLaren said.

According to Ms. McLaren, RSABI was deeply moved by the generous offers of donations and the supply of silage and straw from farmers in different regions of the country who were eager to assist those affected by the losses.

“We have been moved by the support being offered by people in the agricultural community keen to help fellow farmers at this very difficult time for those worst hit. This tide of emotional support is very valuable in itself and we hope will help to lift the spirits of those who have suffered loss in the past week.

“We would encourage anyone who has lost vital supplies needed to feed and bed livestock through the coming winter to please get in touch by emailing forageaid@rsabi.org.uk to allow us to assess the level of demand for a Forage Aid response.”

NFU Scotland President Martin Kennedy emphasised the need for short-term government support due to the unprecedented scale of damage and uninsured losses in the farming industry.
