A PUBLIC meeting has taken place in Broomhill to tackle housing chiefs over the 115 per cent rise in heating bills.

Around 80 local residents and tenants joined together with local councillors to air concerns about the massive hike.

River Clyde Homes representatives told the meeting there were no plans to reduce the heating bills.

Meeting organiser Sam Wilson said: "When I have been out dropping leaflets there is huge concern.

"Someone told me that they top up their card by £5 and it is only enough to wash their dishes and run three baths.

"They don't turn their heating on at all.

"It is a bad day when people have to count their baths.

"We encouraged as many people as possible to come along. It was an opportunity to discuss the recent increase and how it will affect people.

River Clyde Homes heard that people are now turning off their heating over fears at the cost, with some saying it is now more expensive to run than gas.
