PLANS have been lodged which would see the demolition of an agricultural building at a farm in North Ayrshire.

This would pave the way for four new homes to be created in its place at Blairpark Farm - just off the A760 between Largs and Kilbirnie.

An application seeking to carry out the works was brought to North Ayrshire Council on behalf of Alistair Mills this week.

This states that the agricultural building is "no longer required as part of the farming enterprise".

Application documents add that the structure would not be suitable for conversion which is why proposals look "to utilise the brownfield site to provide rural housing".

Documents state that residential use is already established within the area - which has shared access with Mills Milk - as it contains an original farm dwelling and cottages.

If approved, the whole building currently on site would be demolished and replaced by a "block unit" comprising four homes - each containing three bedrooms.

This would be located on the shed footprint and is described as "in keeping with the siting and massing of the building it replaces".

Access to the homes would be gained via the established junction from and onto the A760.

Documents supporting the application add: "The residential units respect the setting and the traditional rural appearance found in North Ayrshire.

"The dwelling entrances and parking areas are located to the north, screened from view, and the garden and amenity spaces are located to the south.

"The proposal represents a sensitive and policy-compliant replacement building, that aligns with planning policy and environmental sustainability.

"The proposed dwellings respect the existing rural setting ensuring integration and demonstrating a responsible and sustainable approach to rural living."

Plans were submitted to North Ayrshire Council approval earlier this month and are currently pending consideration.

These are available to view in full via the authority's online planning portal, searching for reference 25/00149/PP.

Officers currently have an internal target date for a decision of June 7.
