Check out the various rural events taking place this summer

Just before the month draws to a close, RNAS BeefTech will be one of many events beef producers and consumers alike will not want to miss.

Taking place on Wednesday, May 28 at Home Farm, Kininmonth, near Mintlaw in Aberdeenshire, the one day event will feature activities that centre on education and knowledge sharing through the likes of demonstrations, seminars, exhibitions and more with a focus on eating quality.

Host farmer Noel Gall highlights why these days are so important for the rural community.

The RNAS team has been so good to work with and it’s so important to have things like this going ahead for our industry as a whole. We hope we can show the visitors a good cross section of what we here at Home Farm, Kininmonth.”

As June rolls around, many will be looking forward to the Royal Highland Show held from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22, where there will be plenty of time to catch up with both old and new faces. This, alongside seeing some of the best livestock, machinery, and produce that the country has to offer will no doubt provide a satisfying day out or two (or three!)

One of the largest agricultural shows held in the North, Black Isle will see vibrant showcase of livestock and produce from all over Scotland However before the masses descend on Ingliston there are still many exciting events in the calendar to whet your appetite.

After last year’s successful NSA Scotsheep held at Aikengall in Dunbar, this year marks the anticipated return of Highland Sheep on Wednesday, June 11 at Midfearn Farm, Ardgay.

The one day event will feature workshops covering sheep health, flock efficiency and rural wellbeing. There will also be seminars throughout the day discussing inspection and policy, farm diversification through social media, and the importance of lamb in the food market.

Home Farm, Kininmonth near Mintlaw in Aberdeenshire will be host to RNAS BeefTech next week This is alongside a tour of the farm, speed shearing competition, stockjudging, sheepdog trials and the prestigious Next Generation Shepherd of the Year which will all take place throughout the day.

Speaking about the event, Midfearn Farm manager, Neil Shaw said: "For farmers, whether you're coming from just down the road or from miles away, the NSA Highland Sheep event at Midfearn is a must-visit.

The event in June is all about showcasing the best of Scottish sheep farming. On the day you will be able to get a close-up look at our stock, hear about advanced grazing systems and soil management, watch sheepdog trials, and see the fastest sheep shearers in the land. You can also enjoy delicious food stands and of course the beer tent!

Kicking off July, GWCT Scottish Game Fair will be held at Scone Palace, Perth from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6.

A three-day extravaganza, the event is a celebration of Scotland’s rich countryside heritage. Some highlights include traditional game and sporting activities such as falconry, shooting, ferreting, and a display of hill ponies. This is alongside demonstrations on fly fishing, gundog shows and cooking as well as plenty of shopping opportunities to get your next piece of stalking apparel.

If you are looking to do something completely different, The Tall Ships Races will take place in Aberdeen this year as it’s only UK stop from Saturday, July 19 to Tuesday, July 22.

Transforming the quayside at Porth of Aberdeen’s North Harbour into a vibrant venue filled with attractions, the event will showcase a majestic fleet of tall ships from around the world.

Heading into August, the agricultural shows take the forefront, with Perth Show kicking off the month on Friday, August 1 and Saturday, August 2 at the South Inch.

A two-day show hosting everything from Clydesdale horses, cows and sheep, working hunter horses, show jumping, vintage tractors and machinery, to children's activities and fantastic local food and drink. The show will be sure to be a fun filled event for all.

Following on from Perth, Turriff Show is next on the list from Sunday, August 3 to Monday, August 4 at The Haughs, Turriff.

The biggest two-day agricultural show in Scotland, the Aberdeenshire event is estimated to attract around 24,000 people, including those involved in farming as well as many non-farming people who enjoy the show for its wide array of activities.

Wrapping up the first week in August, The Black Isle Show held at Muir of Ord, Thursday, August 7.

The largest agricultural show in the North, the event features entries from all over Scotland showcasing agriculture and rural life in the beautiful Highlands.

If you are needing a change of scenery, The Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo is held from Friday, August 1 to Saturday, August 23.

Those that head to the world famous show held at Edinburgh Castle will get an experience like no other bringing together the best of British Military with international performances from around the globe. The showcase will present emotionally charged entertainment featuring cutting edge lighting, sound and military precision.

This summer proves to be jam-packed with exciting shows and events that will provide much needed day out or two from the farm.
