Two good and remarkably similar runs from Ian Brownlie’s Lark and Tod led the field at Udny where Texel cross ewes ran well on the big, flat course, but they tested the dogs at the pen.

Lark (D Robertson’s Joe, A Watson’s Fan) had a tremendous run with clean work outbye and at hand, and a wide turn out of the cross drive gate was his only weakness.

Tod (IM Brownlie’s Boyd, F Harley’s Ness) followed the pattern of clean work outbye and at hand, but had a little more trouble at the cross drive gate and his sheep missed the gate.

Texel cross gimmers at Gatehouse ran well on a flat course that rose gently at the far end, providing an ideal release point, but they were not readily penned and proved hard to split at the shed.

Ian Lockhart’s Roy (P Byrne’s Moss, C McLaughlin’s Nala) worked well outbye and had a near-perfect fetch. He drove the sheep smoothly round the course with only minor deviations of the line. A clean pen followed, and although the bell rang as Roy made his shed, he had not yet taken control of his pair, but good work already attained gave him the lead.

A clean outrun and lift and the best fetch of the day gave Peter Martin’s Holly a comfortable lead over the field at Atholl and Weem.

Holly (M Davidson’s Glen, P Martin’s Ivy) ran out and lifted cleanly and although she had the to deal with difficult Lleyn ewes at the start of the fetch, she got the sheep through the gate.

A clean pen and a good shed set the seal on Holly’s clear lead over the field.
