FIREFIGHTERS from Carlisle East Fire Station rescued a cow trapped in an underground slurry pit near Dalston on Monday evening (September 22).
At around 5 pm, an appliance and enhanced rescue unit were sent to the scene.
A spokesperson for the fire station said: "Our specialist animal rescue-trained firefighters worked alongside the farmer and a vet to attach lifting slings to the animal, and lift it to safety with the help of farm machinery.
"The cow was no worse for wear for its ordeal."
