A new category to the Scottish Agriculture Awards was Young Farmer of the Year, sponsored by ATV Services, which went to Callum Simpson of Garioch JAC, with Scott Limond of Ayr YFC in second place and Robert Kennedy, East Lothian JAC, close behind.
Reflecting on his win, Callum said: “I’ve learnt many skills along the way, the biggest lesson being about how much help you can get. Galbraith and RBS have been exceptional, and it is reassuring to know that help is there. It makes me proud to be one of many young farmers, to not have just won the competition but be part of such a great community. As for the quad bike I have won, it will probably just be abused like the last one!”
ATV Services, the award sponsor, said: “Last night at the Scottish Agriculture Awards we were truly inspired by the talent, innovation and grit on show - from top-tier arable farms to pioneering dairy herds, dynamic sheep farms, diversified businesses, contractors, suppliers and lifetime achievers. SAYFC added: “The competition this year was incredibly tight, with only the slenderest of margins separating these fantastic competitors from the top spot. A brilliant effort from all our finalists!”
