John D Laird Agricultural Contractors, based in Ayrshire, took home the Contractor of the Year award, much to the delight of the team.
“I was shocked and delighted - I’ve never won anything in my life apart from the odd ploughing match,” said David Laird. “To be recognised here is amazing. My workmates, and I don’t call them employees, are all here, and this is as much for them as it is for me.”
It’s easy to see why, in a business built on trust and hard work, David leads with loyalty and respect with the venue chatter highlighting him as a very worthy winner. Calling his team workmates rather than staff is just one small example of how he puts people first.
The Ayrshire-based firm offers a wide range of services, from slurry management and ploughing to silage and hedge cutting, all while adapting machinery and techniques to meet the needs of modern farming.
Judges praised their staff loyalty, long-standing commitment to agricultural contracting, and innovation in machinery and technology.
