Reflecting on the award, John Jamieson said: “I’m overwhelmed and privileged to be in such high-class company this evening.” He explained that sustainability has always been part of their farm’s philosophy, describing it as “all about harmony between nature and farming, and it works for us.”

The farm has been organic for 26 years, a journey John admits has been challenging at times but also deeply rewarding. As he put it: “In my opinion most farmers are very good at being sustainable; I don’t see myself as different from other farmers I know.” For him, the focus isn’t on being unique, it’s about preserving the industry for the next generation: “What is most important is keeping the industry sustainable for the next generation.”

Firth Farming combines high-forage milk production with a strong emphasis on renewable energy, biodiversity projects, and advanced breeding techniques. Their approach shows that productivity and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand, setting an example for Scottish farming today and in the future.
