John Deere will host a free online Military Hiring Programme event on December 3, aimed at helping service leavers understand how their military skills can transfer into careers with advanced agricultural and turf machinery.
The virtual session will give attendees insight into roles across the UK and Ireland dealer network, training pathways, and the support available for those transitioning from the armed forces.
The programme builds on strong interest since its UK launch in 2023, which has successfully attracted ex-military talent into dealership teams.
Allan Cochran, training centre manager at John Deere, will guide attendees through the programme.
“We know the skills, discipline and problem-solving experience found in the armed forces match perfectly with our technician and support roles,” he said. “This is a chance to hear directly from our team and speak with people who have already made the move. Service leavers bring huge value to our dealers and we will continue to invest in pathways that help them succeed.”
The event will feature Graham Walker, a former Royal Navy engineer who spent 24 years mostly aboard nuclear submarines. Graham applied his technical and leadership experience to move into a senior role at John Deere dealer Smallridge Bros, and is now service manager at their Callington depot in Cornwall.

The support is there from day one and the programme helps you map out your next steps.”

On submarines, Graham often had to manufacture components from raw materials to keep critical systems running, developing expertise in hydraulics, propulsion, gas and atmosphere management, and nuclear engineering under pressure, skills now applied in his civilian career.
Other speakers include Chris Giles from Tallis Amos Group’s Leominster depot, another ex-forces member who has built a successful career within the dealership network. James Evans, division customer support manager at John Deere, will explain how the company supports ex-military staff in their transition to full-time roles.
Earlier this year, John Deere was named in the 50 Great British Employers of Veterans 2025 list and has signed the Armed Forces Covenant. The Military Hiring Programme provides service leavers with a dedicated mentor, free training, and ongoing support as they move into dealership roles.
