Cummins Inc. has begun limited production of its new F4.5 Structural engine for tractors, launched at Agritechnica 2025.

The announcement coincided with Cummins’ next-generation X15 Off-Highway engine being named 2026 Alternative Engine of the Year by POWERTRAIN International. The award was presented at the Cummins booth on Monday, November 10.

Vice president of Cummins’ Off-Highway Engine Business, Marina Savelli said: “Cummins has a rich legacy of powering farm and agriculture equipment with our first diesel engine built for farm use more than 100 years ago.

"To be recognized with the Alternative Engine of the Year Award at Agritechnica is special. Agriculture is more than an industry; it’s a global lifeline to a growing global population. At Cummins, we’re proud to support the farmers who feed the world through our lineup of high efficiency power solutions that are reliable, durable, and future-ready."

X15 off-highway engine

The new X15 is built on Cummins’ HELM platform (Higher Efficiency, Lower Emissions, Multiple Fuels), which supports both advanced diesel and hydrogen variants. Sharing a common base design and installation points, HELM engines make it easier for OEMs to integrate lower-emission options.

Delivering higher power and torque than its predecessor in a more compact design, the next-gen X15 offers intermittent agricultural ratings from 400–600hp (298–447kW) and peak torque up to 2213 lb-ft (3000Nm).

A redesigned fuel system improves efficiency by up to 10%, while service intervals have been extended to 1000 hours which is double the current model’s recommendation. Production is expected to begin in 2027.

F4.5 structural engine

The new F4.5 Structural engine expands Cummins’ tractor line-up, producing 130–160hp (95–120kW) with strong low-end torque and smooth performance.

Executive director of Cummins’ Off-Highway Business, Beau Lintereur said: "We’ve built the F4.5 to have substantial low-end torque and transient performance benefits, alongside excellent fuel economy. Because it’s a structural engine, the block, oil pan and gear housing are all integrated right into the chassis, giving the tractor increased strength and durability while reducing overall machine weight. This package gives tractor OEMs the flexibility they need to integrate the engine, while meeting the performance needs farmers demand."

The engine also features smart calibrations for responsive power, oil drain intervals up to 600 hours, and a compact package for easier OEM integration. It was validated through more than 10,000 testing hours in real-world conditions and is built at Cummins’ Darlington Engine Plant in the UK.

With over 100 years of experience in agricultural power, Cummins engines now drive a wide range of machinery—from combines and harvesters to loaders and telehandlers—across the 3.8 to 15-litre range.
