A BERWICKSHIRE farming family has submitted a planning bid to demolish two cottages after a housing re-think.

Scottish Borders Council granted full planning consent in August this year for the McGregor family at Coldstream Mains to extend the cottages into a single dwelling.

But the costs of carrying out the work are now deemed too expensive and a new application has been submitted to SBC to flatten the cottages and build a new property on the site.

A report with the application states: "On the basis of cost, proposal to alter and extend the existing cottages is not feasible.

“However, as the need for an addition house on the farm remains a priority, the applicants now wish to erect a new house on the site of the existing cottages.

"This has been fully costed and can be achieved within budget.”
