Heavy smoke from wildfire visible along A9 in Aviemore

Heavy smoke is visible from the A9 due to an ongoing wildfire in the Scottish Highlands.

Three fire engines and specialist resources have been deployed to the scene, where a "large area of vegetation" near Grampian Road in Aviemore is currently on fire.

The fire crews were on scene at 6.35pm on Sunday, 19 April.

Fire chiefs have warned that heavy smoke will be visible along the A9 while they deal with the fire and have asked the public not to phone their control rooms about it.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews are currently at the scene of a fire affecting a large area of vegetation near Grampian Road, Aviemore.

"There are three fire appliances plus specialist resources at the incident.

"There may be heavy smoke visible from the A9 at Aviemore.

"There is no need to alert our Operations Control room about this fire, as we are receiving a number of calls about this incident."
