Wildfire warnings have been issued for large parts of Scotland as authorities warn of an 'extreme' risk of blazes developing over the coming days.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), working alongside the Scottish Wildfire Forum (SWF), said areas of western, central and eastern Scotland are expected to face very high to extreme wildfire risk through the weekend.
In western Scotland, a very high risk of wildfire will come into effect from Thursday, April 23, before escalating to an extreme risk between Friday, April 24 and Sunday, April 26.

Central and eastern parts of the country will face a very high risk from Friday through to Sunday.
Officials warned that the combination of dry conditions and warmer weather could lead to fires spreading rapidly, putting property, landscapes and wildlife at serious risk.
Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Kenny Barbour, SFRS Head of Prevention and chair of the Scottish Wildfire Forum, urged the public to take extra care.
He said: “Wildfires have the potential to destroy property, landscapes and wildlife, which is why it is so important that members of the public use extreme caution under these conditions.

“People living in the impacted areas should avoid lighting outdoor fires and be mindful that one spark can spread, causing a large amount of damage. Remember, there’s no such thing as a harmless fire.”
Mr Barbour also encouraged people to share the warnings with others and remain vigilant.
He added: “Share wildfire warnings with your family, friends, and visitors. If anyone spots a large outdoor fire, please report it immediately by calling 999, providing your location and any other relevant information so we can respond quickly.”
