Police investigate unexplained death at Welsh farm

Police are investigating the sudden and unexplained death of a man at a farm near Newtown, which prompted a large emergency services response, including an air ambulance.

Emergency crews were called to Rhiewdantin, south of Kerry, on Thursday evening (April 23).

An air ambulance, police officers, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene following reports of an emergency at the farm.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the death is currently being treated as unexplained and that enquiries are continuing.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a call reporting the sudden death of a man at a farm in Rhiewdantin, Newtown at around 8.30pm on Thursday, 23 April.

“His family have been informed, and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.

“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.”

The force confirmed the incident has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive, although the investigation is being led by police.

A spokesperson added: “The death is currently being treated as unexplained.”

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed crews were among those called to assist.

A spokesperson said: “At 8.28pm on Thursday, April 23, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crew from Montgomery Fire Station was called to an incident at Rhiewdantin in Newtown.

“The crew responded to assist Ambulance Service personnel with one casualty.

“Sadly, the casualty died at the scene.

“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.

“The crew left the scene at 9.29pm.”

Wales Air Ambulance confirmed its involvement in the incident.

A spokesperson said: “I can confirm the Wales Air Ambulance helicopter attended an incident in that region on Thursday night.

“Our Cardiff night crew was allocated at 8.30pm and arrived at the scene at 9.11pm. Our involvement concluded at 9.50pm.”

No further details have been released at this stage.

The HSE has been approached for comment.
