A prominent Dumfriesshire livestock farm with a history stretching back thousands of years is set to change hands for the first time in six decades.
Archbank, near Moffat, extends to 1522 acres and has been owned by the Thomson family since 1964, when John Thomson snr purchased the holding and brought an end to more than 350 years of ownership by the Johnstone family.
The farm, which supports around 900 ewes and 40 hill cows, will be offered for sale at auction on July 8 through land and estates specialists C&D Rural.
Evidence suggests agricultural activity has taken place on the land for at least 4000 years. The holding is also closely tied to the history of Moffat, with the site including the famous Archbank Well, which attracted visitors seeking healing waters during the town's rise as a spa destination in the 18th century.
Today, the farm comprises around 250 acres of enclosed pasture and productive silage ground, alongside more than 1250 acres of hill land supporting a traditional upland livestock enterprise.
Included in the sale is Gill Cottage, a detached two-bedroom property located within the farm.
A further 412-acre block known as Alton Hill will be offered separately. The land is divided into nine parcels and is currently used as a hill sheep unit, with extensive views across the Moffat hills and towards the Solway Firth.
Both Archbank and Alton Hill will be auctioned at Dumfries Auction Mart on Wednesday, July 8.
