The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) has charged 22 people, including four serving Members of the Greek Parliament, over an alleged fraud scheme involving EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) funding.

The charges relate to alleged offences committed in 2021 and include abuse of trust, subsidy fraud, attempted computer fraud and false attestation. Former senior officials from Greece's agricultural payments agency, OPEKEPE, are also among those charged.

The EPPO said investigations uncovered alleged unlawful interference in inspections, manipulation of official records and false certifications linked to EU farm payments. Allegations against seven serving MPs and two former MPs were dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Those convicted could face prison sentences of up to five years and fines. The EPPO said further investigations covering other years remain ongoing. All those charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in the Greek courts.
