John Deere wins Royal Welsh innovation award for baler

The prestigious award celebrates the innovation with the greatest potential to improve agriculture in Wales and was presented to John Deere for its Weave Automation technology, available on the V452R and V462R Round Baler models.

The company showcased the technology during this year’s Royal Welsh Show, where visitors were able to see how the system automatically guides the baler from side to side across the windrow to create consistently shaped round bales with minimal operator input.

Weave Automation uses sensors and hydraulics to move the baler back and forth as required, ensuring crop is distributed evenly within the bale chamber. The active hitch also follows curved windrows, including around corners, helping reduce missed crop while limiting unnecessary tractor manoeuvres.

The technology is designed to improve bale consistency while reducing operator workload during long days in the field.

“In streamlining the baling process, Weave Automation reduces fatigue in operators as the machine can do everything for them.

“This means reduced operator error, better documentation, and consistent bales.”
