The Holstein third calver Dalserf Doc Belinda lands supreme

Overall judge Jim Padkin, Muirhouse found his supreme in an Ex91-classified third calver by Kingdo, shown by Gavin Baillie.c and out of an Ex93-classified dam. Reserve champion here last year, she was shown five-months calved and giving 48 litres.

Mr Padkin awarded the blue and white sash to the pedigree beef champion, Stonebyres Tamara, a rising three-year-old British Blue heifer from Blair and Shona Comrie, Stonebyres. A daughter of Tamhorn Enterprising, Tamara was paraded in calf to Greystone Novelty.

In the Clydesdale section, the two-year-old filly Fairybank Barbie from Willie and Janice Dunbar, continued on her winning ways having secured several championships this year. She is sired by Doura Magic Touch.

David Cunningham, Walkerdyke, topped the sheep with his Beltex champion, a home-bred gimmer by Shawtonhill Jack, which was selected supreme by judges William Fleming, Hallhill and Andrew Baillie, Ashgill.

Reserve was a Scotch Mule gimmer from Henry Paterson and Gavin Donald, East Dykes, Strathaven, that has secured several top awards this year.

LEADING awards

Red and White (Judge: A Struthers, Boylston, Cumnock). Champion – D Gray, Grayridge Holsteins with the April-born heifer calf Grayridge Superman Tesla. On her show debut, she is by Mr Budjon Superman and out of Auchensala Architect Tesla. Sole entry.

Holstein Friesian (Judge: A Struthers). Champion and show supreme – JD Baillie, Crumhaugh with the Ex91 classified third-calver, Dalserf Doc Belinda. Sired by Kingdoc and out of an Ex93 classified dam by Chief, she was reserve champion here last year. She was shown five months calved and is currently giving 48 litres. Reserve – J Bryson and Son, Dykehead with the 30-month-old heifer Winchat Crown Royal Lyme, purchased from the Whinchat dispersal. Calved in April, she is giving 43 litres and is sired by Blondin Crown Royal and out of Whinchat Chief Lyme VG87. Young handler calf – 1, Matthew Gray; 2, Molly Frame; 3, Mitchell Young. Heifer calf – D Gray. Yearling heifer – A Hamilton. Pair of maiden heifers – W Frame. Heifer in milk, in-calf cow – J Bryson and Son. Cow in milk, production, pair of Friesians – JD Baillie.

Champion at Newmilns Show. She is by River Valley Victorious and out of the VG85-classified dam Logan Video Glamour. Sole entry.

Commercial cattle (Judge: A Woodburn, Netherwood, Muirkirk). Champion – Jean Mackay, Auchenairney, Kirkmichael with the 16-month-old Limousin cross bullock The Governor. Bred from Woodend Leona and sired by Claddagh McCabe. Reserve – R and J Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill, Chapelton with the 16-month-old Limousin cross heifer Hot Stuff. First at Livescot, she is by a home-bred Limousin bull and out of a British Blue cow. Cow and bullock calf, cow and heifer calf, yearling heifer, 2026-born heifer calf – R and J Hamilton. Yearling bullock, bred – Jean Mackay. 2026-born bull calf, pair – Lucy Clark.

Champion of champions at East Kilbride and Biggar and breed champion at Lesmahagow. She is by Doura Magic Touch and out of Doura Ballerina. Reserve – Jen Spiers, Blantyre with Malcolmwood Jenny Anne, a 13-year-old mare by Whinhill Lord of the Isles out of Cloghan Lady Sabrina. Champion of champions here in 2023 and has qualified for Scone after winning at East Kilbride.

Purchased at Castle Douglas last year, she was champion at East Kilbride, Doune and Dunblane and Dumfries. Texel (Judge: A Baillie). Champion – W Boyd, Dechmont, Cambuslang with a shearling by Cambwell Gigolo bred from an Incheoch Captain daughter. Champion at East Kilbride and bound for the UA sale at Stirling in September. Reserve – Emma Leggate, Boghead with a March-born ewe lamb on her show debut. She is by a Logie Durno sire and out of a ewe purchased from Euros Davies in Welshpool four years ago. Aged ram, tup lamb – R Leggate. Shearling – W Boyd. Ewe lamb – Emma Leggate.
