"Willie .... I think I've just found the weakest link!"
HE might not exactly look like a knight in shining armour, but that's just what Lanarkshire's Willie Mitchell from Hazelside recently turned into – though the story, as you might imagine, had a twist in the tail.
Last week, en route to Lanark mart, our 'wind powered' hero came across two stranded Newton Mearns fermers (numpties?) who had contrived to fill their 4x4 and trailer load of sheep with petrol instead of diesel at Happendon Services.
Willie, in his gleaming Range Rover (remember he is a wind turbine pioneer), came upon the hapless duo of Johnny Pollok and Duncan Whyte and duly offered to come to the rescue.
A tow chain was attached and the team set off for the mart. However, disaster was to strike right in the middle of what is the one way system that is Hyndford Brig when the chain broke.
I'm told that the resultant three-way traffic jams were reminiscent of the M25 near London in rush hour!
