WHILE sheep numbers well and truly dominated the livestock lines at Carnwath Show, the overall champion of champions was selected from the cattle section.

This came in the form of Iain Nimmo’s Mariscote Mistique, a 14-month-old Limousin heifer, from Newmains, which was on a winning streak, having already received the championship honours at Biggar, last month.

Overall judge, Willie Fleming, Hillend, Crossford, found his reserve supreme in another big winner from Biggar Show – the Holstein champion Grangehall Stanleycup Lime, from the Lawries of Grangehall Farm, Pettinain.

Well known throughout Lanarkshire, this third calver has been crowned champion at Lesmahagow for the past two years in succession and took the reserve breed title at Biggar.

A busy sheep section saw inter-breed judge, Brian Dickie, Spango, Sanquhar, award the top ticket to the champion Blackface, a shearling ram from Allan Smith, Wester Crosswoodburn. Reserve was Allan Campbell’s Texel champion, a two-crop ewe from Strawfrank.

Have a look at the Grand Parade, which took place at the end of the livestock showing in the above video.
