BAGGING the red, white and blue sash amongst the British Blues, was Charlotte Alford from Foxhill Farm, who runs just one breeding female in herd near Collumpton, Devon.

This was Foxhill Nadiya, an ET January 2018-born heifer which stood supreme champion at the Sedgemoor Calf Show. The first calf bred from Rhymil Kylie, a dam which Charlotte was gifted for her 18th birthday and that stood champion at a number of national shows the same year, including a number of wins for Charlotte, last year, she is by Park Daimler – semen which dates back to as far as 1982.

Flying the flag for Scotland was Ian McGarva from Nether Abington, Abington, Biggar, when his male champion, Abington Nitro, scooped the overall honours. Brought out by Kelly Blackwood and Duncan Davidson, this March 2018-born bull calf is an ET bred calf from Abington Harriet and by Corrandulla Finton. A full brother to a previous reserve overall winner here, he is destined for the Stars of the Future Calf Show, this weekend.

Cumbria-based breeder, Dean Saunders who runs 25 pedigree British Blues alongside his dad's 80-cow Simmental herd, enjoyed his best ever here, taking the reserve titles in both the females and the males. Reserve male champion was Maidenlands Marvel, an ET October 2017-born bull calf by Corrandulla Finton, out of Maindelands Kloe – the herd's foundation cow which goes back to Solway View breeding.

A similar aged heifer from Dean took the reserve honours in the females. This was Maidenlands Marbella, an ET-bred calf by Bedgebury Flat Out, and the first calf bred from the imported 116 Hof Ter Zilverberg. She stood reserve champion at her local show.
