Charlotte Wilson's Evening Holstein herd scored a hat-trick at Cumberland Show winning her third consecutive supreme overall champion of champions with a cow in milk.

Judge, Margaret Hodgson, Wormanby, voted the dairy cow as her top choice over the supreme beef, sheep, light horse in-hand, light horse ridden and heavy horse champions.

"She is the perfect cow and stole the show on the day. She is a well-balanced cow and caught my eye as soon as she came into the ring," added Mrs Hodgson.

Star performer was Whinchatt Stanley Cup Farrah, a third calver in milk producing 55litres per day, having calved down in December. A daughter of Whinchatt Atlas Farrah 2 and sired by Gillette Stanley Cup, she is bound for the Royal Welsh later this year.

Running in reserve dairy inter-breed was Ms Katherine Jenkinson, Fordsyke, Scaleby, Carlisle with the four-year-old, Katherines Jenny Ontime. The Jersey cow in milk is by Lencrest Ontime ER, out of Katherines Elizabeth.

Taking the beef inter-breed championship – selected by the various breed judges on a points system – was a 16-month-old Limousin bull from Stephen and Ann Morley, Petteril Bank, Southwaite, Carlisle. Their top winner was Petteril Oz, a Foxhillfarm Irish Lad son out of Petteril Lucy, on his first outing.

Reserve beef inter-breed was tapped out to Sean Mitchell with the 51/2-year-old British Blonde cow, Hackleton Ibis. She is a son of Druk Elijah, out of Hackleton Elecia.

Over in the sheep lines, Messrs Buckle's lead Beltex, a gimmer from, Buckle Farm Barras, lifted the top award. She is by the £7500 Plumtree Wonderful and bred from the 8500gns College Adele, purchased at the flock dispersal. Second prize within the sheep was awarded to Kevin Watret, Maulscastle, Cummertrees with an aged Blue Texel ram sired by Hackney Yardman and out of a Corra ewe. Winning is not unusual for him after taking male champion last year at the Royal Highland.

Darren Willey, Broomfield took the supreme heavy horse title with the eight-year-old Clydesdale mare, Bencannon Duchess, by Great American Ben Franklin out of Collessie Venus, Darren Wiley. She was champion at Northumberland Show, last month.

Also flying the flag for Scotland to win the inter-breed ridden lead rein pony championship was Alidantes Dream, a Welsh PB pony owned by Kate MacMillan, and shown by Zoe and Archie Nicholl of the Nicholl Show Team from Ayrshire. The pony is sired by Skellorn Graffiti and out of Aildante.
