The long drive from Hereford proved worth the journey for Jamie and Richard Jerman, Wern, Brilley, Hereford, when they were tapped out as overall sheep champion with their pair of Beltex lambs.

Last year, the Jermans took second and third prizes at this event but have never taken the overall title. The pair of lambs are sons of Hackney Champ and out of Dutch Texel ewes.

The judge, Gregor Ingram, Logie Durno, Pitcaple, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, awarded the blue and white sash to the champion pair of hill bred lambs – a pair of Blackface lambs from Tom Frame, High Dyke, Sandford, Strathaven, brought out with help from James Taylor. After exhibiting here many times, this is the first championship win for the Frames.

This pair was on its first outing and were sired by a Windhill tup and out of a Jaw-sired ewe.

Mr Ingram found his reserve pair of hill bred lambs in Cheviots from Andrew Reid, Glendearg, Eskdalemuir, Langholm. The April-born lambs are both by home-bred sires and out of home-bred ewes, with this being their first outing and were giving Andrew his best result at Agri-Expo.

From the Continental/Down lambs, the reserve was the first prize YFC pairing from April Skelton (14), Inglewood Edge, Dalston, Carlisle, Cumbria, brought out with Kenza Bindloss (15). These home-bred Beltex cross Texel lambs were on their first outing and are sired by an Orkney Texel tup, out of Beltex cross dams.

Mike and Becky, Allen, Borrowby Grange, Staithes, Saltburn, Cleveland, are regular exhibitors at the Borderway event but this was their first championship with lambs bred from hill ewes. That was with a pair of Beltex cross Swaledale lambs.

Reserve from the same section was a pair of Mule ewe lambs from DF Crew, Gall, Boreland, Lockerbie, Dumfries-shire. This pair of home-bred lambs are out of home-bred Blackface ewes.

Mule gimmers had their own class outwith the championship and first prize went to James Robinson, Dunkirk Avenue, Carnforth, Lancashire, for a pair of lambs bred by David Lawson that were purchased at Hawes in September, where they stood first prize lambs. They are sired by L19 Barley.
