Taking their second supreme championship in the 'baby' beef section at the Borderway event was JCB Commercials, from Co Down – this time with the eight-month-old Limousin cross heifer, Tabasco.

Across six classes there was an impressive entry of 75 high quality calves, but the winner certainly caught the judge, Shropshire-based Paul Tippetts' eye: "She is an outstanding animal with great presence, the heifer is perfectly balanced and was an easy winner on the day. She shows great character and walked well amongst the show ring, she is the ideal animal, showing great shape."

The winner is a daughter of the Limousin bull, Trueman Idol, out of a Limousin cross British Blue dam and was on her first outing. She was bred from Jack and Stephen Smyth, Newton Stewart, Northern Ireland, and was purchased privately earlier this year.

Mr Tippetts' choice of reserve was another Limousin cross, a steer exhibited by Sandy Hunter, Wedderburn, Huntly, Aberdeenshire, and Stephanie Dick, Mains of Throsk, Stirling. Mr Tippets said: "He is a showy young calf with great presence and is going to go on to do well with plenty of show potential with being so young and fleshy."

This was Loveable Rogue, a son of Rossignol out of a Limousin cross cow – he was on her first outing. Sandy and Stephanie purchased the black three-month-old steer privately from Loyd Fowlie, The Guise, Tough Alford, Aberdeenshire.
