A strong entry of Highland cattle witnessed the three-year-old cow, Banrigh 11 of Hyndford, from Alan Prentice, Ravenstruther, take the supreme. Having stood champion at Beith and reserve at Neilston this year she is set for a successful summer. This girl is a daughter of Alasdair 4 of Douglas and out of the home-bred dam, Banrigh 3 of Hyndford.

"It is a well presented heifer being well filled out behind the shoulder which I prefer, along with a good long length of plates and very good in the second thigh. This well rounded heifer walks well with good tight feet and was well worthy of being champion," said Highland cattle judge, Andrew Kirkpatrick, Beith.

Branchal Secretariat Molly 197 stood dairy champion for James Telfer, sons, Andrew and Callum, and grandson, Blair, Bridge of Weir, who run 250 Holstein Friesians. The heifer in milk, is a daughter of All Nure Secretariat, out of Branchal Sanchez Molly and was on her first outing. In her first lactation she is now giving 40kg having last calved in December and is classified VG85.

From the sheep lines, best overall was the Texel champion which came in the form of a ewe lamb from Anne Wright, Kilmacolm. Part of her 10 ewe flock, this embryo lamb is sired by the Lanark purchase, Milnbank Ever Ready and out of a home-bred ewe.

Runner up to this was the Cheviot two-crop ewe from W and J Howie, Auchentiber. This girl is a daughter of a Murdieston sire onto a home-bred ewe.

Dairy cattle (Judge: James Scott, Menstrie). Champion – J Telfer, Bridge of Weir, with the heifer in milk, Branchal Secretariat Molly 197. This girl is in her first lactation now giving 40kg having last calved in December and is classified VG85. On her first outing she is a daughter of All Nure Secretariat and out of Branchal Sanchez Molly. Reserve came from the same home this time in the form of the freshly calved cow, Branchal Brinstar Babette 608. This cow is in her fifth lactation having calved six weeks ago and is now giving 54kg being Ex90 classified. Calf – N Wright. All other classes – J Telfer.

Pedigree beef cattle (Judge: James Scott). Champion – A MacDougall, Burnbank, with the in-calf Beef Shorthorn heifer, Burnbank Peppa. This girl is sired by Westbroad Finn Explorer, out of Lawns Just the Job, and is due to calf in October to Fearn MacDui. All classes – A MacDougall.

Commercial beef cattle (Judge: James Scott). Champion – A Young, Towncroft, Houston, with a Limousin cross Autumn born heifer calf. This girl is by the AI bull, Tom's Choice On Slow and out of one of the 40 cows in the herd, a Limousin cross British Blue dam. Reserve – W and J Howie, Auchentiber, Kilmacolm, with a Charolais cross bull calf. This March born calf is backed by home-bred genetics on both the dam and sire side. Cow and calf, heifer – A Young. Beef calf under 200kg – J Laird. Beef calf over 200kg – W and J Howie.

Highland (Judge: Andrew Kirkpatrick, Beith). Champion – A Prentice, Ravenstruther, with his three-year-old cow, Banrigh 11 of Hyndford. Having already been champion at Beith and reserve at Neilston this year, she is by Alasdair 4 of Douglas and out of the home-bred dam, Banrigh 3 of Hyndford. Reserve – S and R Hunter, Barnhill, Shotts, with their second placed three-year-old, Boidheach of Hunters. A Jura 3rd of Thaggnam daughter she is out of Lisa 2nd of Gartocharn and is now destined for the Royal Highland and the Great Yorkshire shows. Bull – A Kennedy. Three-year-old cow, heifer stirk – A Prentice. Two-year-old cow, pairs – S and R Hunter.

Blackface (Judge: Richard McArdle, Balintore). Champion – C and A Paterson, Plan Farm, Isle of Bute, with their ewe hogg. This girl is backed by home-bred genetics on both sides. Reserve came from the same home this time with a two-crop ewe which is sired by a Dalchirla tup. All classes – C and A Paterson.

Cheviot (Judge: Richard McArdle). Champion – W and J Howie, Auchentiber, with a two-crop aged ewe. This girl is a daughter of a Murdieston sire and out of a home-bred ewe. Reserve came in the form of another the same way bred this time a two-shear aged tup. All classes – W and J Howie.

Suffolk (Judge: Willie Baird, Eaglesham). Champion – D Tulloch and E Paterson's six crop ewe from Uplawmoor. This girl is the result of the Rigfoot Bigbang sire onto a Harpercroft ewe. Reserve was a tup hogg sired by Blackstown Rambo and out of a home-bred ewe. All classes – D Tulloch and E Paterson.

Bluefaced Leicester (Judge: Richard McArdle). Champion – W and J Howie, Auchentiber, stood supreme with a shearling tup that is a son of a Waterskye tup and out of a home-bred dam. Reserve – R Baxter, Bridge of Weir, with a ewe hogg, from their five ewe flock. Aged tup – W and J Howie. All other classes – R Baxter.

Texel (Judge: Willie Baird). Champion – A Wright, Kilmacolm, with a ewe lamb from her 10 ewe flock. This embryo lamb is sired by the Lanark purchase, Milnbank Ever Ready and out of a home-bred ewe. Reserve – R Close, with a February born tup lamb. He is the result of the Castlecairn Doodlebug sire onto a Harestone Commander sired-dam. Aged tup – B Carruth. Tup lamb, ewe with lamb at foot, ewe hogg – R Close. Ewe lamb – A Wright.

Clydesdales (Judge: Mairi Ralston, Campbeltown). Champion – A and E Campbell's filly, Pacemuir Viola from Kilmacolm. On her first outing she is sired by Dillars Ollie and out of Pacemuir Molly. She is now set to take on more local shows before venturing to the Royal Highland this year. Reserve – A Barnes, with the 12-year-old mare, Pacemuir Elfrieda, which is backed by Dillars Ideal and out of Rashillhouse Betty.
