The Holstein cow, Curtismill Aventador Hatascot, secured the champions of champions accolade for the return of Biggar Show last weekend.

The previously unshown fifth calver which classified Ex93 in her last lactation, is jointly owned by Robert Sloan, Cumnock, and Colin Laird, Blyth, Peebles. She is by Coollawn-com Aventador, bred from the VG85 classified dam, Curtismill Zulu Hatascot 42, and was paraded having calved down in May and giving 70litres per day.

“She is a very good sharp cow and her udder and teat attachment was superb. She was a well worthy winner in my eyes and outstanding today,” said supreme show judge, David Baillie, Carnwath, who selected his champion against the beef, sheep, Clydesdale, pony and dog champions.

Reserve honours went to the supreme sheep – a Texel gimmer from Alan Clark, Garngour, Lesmahagow.

The Texel breed which was also hosting the Scottish National attracted a strong number of entries, and saw top award presented to Great Yorkshire Show champion. She is a daughter of the 16,000gns Procters Chumba Wumba, and bred from a ewe by Knock Bantastic. Her great grand dam is a former Royal Highland Show and Great Yorkshire inter-breed champion in 2016 and has bred the 70,000gns Teiglum Young Gun.

Runner up in the sheep lines selected by Ian Goldie, Dumfries was the Bluefaced Leicester crossing type two-crop ewe from the Thornborrow family, Easter Dawyck, Peebles. She is bred from K1 Shafthill and out of H37 Dawyck which stood champion here in 2019.

The Livesey family, Broomhill, took the top ticket in the cattle when their Salers cow and calf outfit got the winning slap from inter-breed judge, Sam McClymont, Tinnis, Selkirk. Their six-year-old cow Cleuchhead Mhairi, is a daughter of Drumlegagh Brandon and bred from Cleuchhead Mhairi 10.

Reserve champion at the Royal Highland Showcase last year, she stood third at this year's Ingliston event with her March-born heifer calf.

Taking the blue and white sash among the cattle was a 13-month-old Limousin heifer from Ian and Moyra Nimmo and son, Andrew, Bogside, Wishaw. Their Maraiscote Sorbet is a Bassingfield Machoman daughter, and stood second at both the Highland and Yorkshire this year.

William Dunbar, secured the Clydesdale honours with the yearling filly, Doura Sorrenta, bought as a foal from Charlotte Young. She is a daughter of Doura Magic Touch and out of Collessie Flash Girl.

Reserve – J Forrest, Hillend, Lamington with the 4½ year-old, Ladygill Naughty But Nice. Backed by home-bred genetics she is sired by Ladygill Hennesay and out of the show cow, Edenhurst Jenny. Limousin (Judge: I Goldie). Champion and reserve – The Nimmo family, Bogside, Wishaw. Champion was the 13-month-old heifer, Maraiscote Sorbet, a Bassingfield Machoman daughter, out of Maraiscote Jellybelly, which goes back to Goldies Comet. Sorbet took second place at both the Highland and Yorkshire this year. Reserve was the reserve male champion at the Great Yorkshire Show, Maraiscote Sauvage. This 15-month-old is again by Machoman but out of Maraiscote Gucci. All classes – I Nimmo.

British Blue (Judge: I Goldie). Champion and reserve – I McGarva, of Nether Abington, Abington. Supreme was the male champion from the Royal Highland Show, Abington Pablo. This September, 2020-born home-bred bull, is a son of Rocco De La Hasse, out of Abington Monico, whose full sister, Abington Lily, was a successful show cow. A full brother to Pablo sold in May at Carlisle for 10,000gns. Reserve was the 17-month-old, Abington Roxanne, which previously stood reserve female at Agri Expo last year. She stood champion at the calf sale in Oban where she was purchased from Robert Currie, Low Dunasherry, and has since landed top tickets at Lesmahagow, Neilston, Newmilns and Fenwick Shows. Reserve – The Nimmo family, Bogside, Wishaw, with their Limousin steer, Sid. He was male champion at the Great Yorkshire Show as well as second at the Highland to the male champion. Having been bought as a calf from Hillary and Douglas Crane, Leadburn, she is a daughter of Blair Rannoch of Lyntoun and out of Carol 2 of Lyntoun. She was paraded with her March-born heifer calf, Somasag of Lyntoun, which is sired by Eoin Mhor 23 of Mottistone. Reserve – G Hyslop, Glentewing, Crawfordjohn, with the two-year-old heifer, Fern 2 of Black Glen. Reserve female at the Highland and Stirling Shows, she was also supreme at Doune and Dunblane.
