The pedigree classes were strong in both quality and numbers at LiveScot, with the winner of the Simmental section going on to take the overall inter-breed cattle title.

That was Delfur Nifty, a yearling heifer from Delfur Farms’ herd at Rothes, brought out by stockman Garry Patterson. This daughter of Ballymoney Larry, out of the Islavale Cassius daughter, Delfur Joyful, was adding to her list of accolades, having won the Simmental championship at AgriExpo last month and stood reserve senior female at the Stars of the Future show at Stirling.

Judge Dennis Gall described her as a ‘lovely balanced heifer, with great lines about her.’ For his reserve, he was impressed by the ‘tremendous size and power’ of the Charolais champion Ricnick Tyson, a 16 month-old bull from Dumfriesshire’s Richard McCornick. Reserve senior male at Stars of the Future and next destined for the Stirling sale in February, he is one of the first sons of the privately bought Castellmawr Rocketman and out of Ricnick Peach.

A Blackface ewe lamb from Jim and Andrew Boswell, Burnhead, Darvel, finished reserve non-MV. Sired by a £1600 Towiemore, she had been first at Newmilns and second at Strathaven.
