The sun certainly shone for Kilmacolm Show, with favourable weather showcasing the livestock to their best.

Supreme sheep was the Texel champion, a one-crop-ewe from Willie Baird, Floors Farm, Eaglesham.

She was bought at the Usk Vale sale last year, and is by Cressage Enforcer and out of a ewe by Plasucha All Star.

Standing reserve to her was the champion Blackface, a ewe hogg from Stuart Kerr, Middleton, Newton Mearns. She is sired by a son of £5500 Auldhouseburn.

Leading the cattle section was a two-year-old Highland heifer from Thomas Sloan, West Linton, Coatshouse, Netherurd.

Somasag of Lyntoun, by Eion Mhor 23 of Mottistone out of Carole 3 of Gray Brae, already boasts championship wins at Beith and Neilston and last year also stood first in her class at the Royal Highland.

Blackface (Judge: A Boswell, Darvel). Champion and reserve overall sheep – S Kerr, Middleton with a ewe hogg, sired by a son of £5500 Auldhouseburn and out of a £4500 Auldhouseburn ewe. Reserve sheep at Neilston. Reserve – A Fletcher with a one-crop-ewe by Crossflatt McCoy Lookalike out of the Matriarch, the Crossflatt charity ewe. Tup and reserve confined champion – A and C Paterson. Tup hogg – A and S Gordon. Tup lamb, ewe with lamb at foot, confined champion – A Fletcher. Ewe hogg – S Kerr.

Cheviot (Judge: A Boswell). Champion – W and J Howie with a ewe hogg by a Murdieston Sire. Reserve – A and C Paterson. Tup, tup hogg, tup lamb, ewe hogg, ewe lamb, bred – W and J Howie. Ewe with lamb at foot – A and C Paterson.

Suffolk (Judge: D Clark, Carluke). Champion and reserve – Rigfoot Suffolks. Champion was a home-bred ewe lamb by Rigfoot Boaby out of a home-bred ewe. Reserve from the same home was a home-bred ewe hogg by the same sire. All classes – Rigfoot Suffolks.

Bluefaced Leicester (Judge: A Boswell). Champion and reserve – W and J Howie. Champion was a ewe hogg by an Over Finlarg sire. Reserve was a tup bought from the Craig. All classes – W and J Howie.

Texel (Judge: D Clark). Champion and overall sheep was the one-crop-ewe from W Baird, Floors, Eaglesham. Bought at the Usk Vale sale in 2023, it is by Cressage Enforcer and out of Plasucha All Star. Reserve – R Close. Tup hogg – A and G MacDougall. Tup lamb, ewe hogg, bred by exhibitor – R Close.

Clydesdale (Judge: Y Pringle, Midlothian). Champion – B Ferguson with the filly class winner. Reserve – B and D McMillan, Clydeview, Rothesay, with the two-year-old filly Fordelhill Sapphire, by Macfin Starlight out of Fordelhill Jubilee Ruby. She was champion at Beith and reserve at Kilmaurs and Neilston. Yeld mare – A and E Campbell. Two-year-old – B Ferguson. Yearling, young handler, ridden Clydesdale, pair – C Marshall.
