It was a day to remember for the Crawlaw team when they swept the boards at a glorious Newmilns Show, following a wet week.
Taking the prestigious champion of champions accolade was the commercial champion that went on to stand supreme beef for Allan and Susan Campbell, Crawlaw, Galston. This previously unshown 11-month-old Limousin cross heifer brought out by stockman Taylor Holloway was purchased at Carlisle from John Smith-Jackson and is now destined for the Highland later in the month.
Sired by Lotto she is out of a pure Limousin cow.

“She is an outstanding animal, which was brought out to perfection. She showed herself off well and is just my kind of animal,” said the judge Willie Kelso, Niaroo, Blackwaterfoot, Arran.
The reserve beef honours went to the same home when their Limousin champion, Goldies Taboo, a 20-month-old heifer. Champion at Kilmaurs Show, she was purchased at the Red Ladies Weaned Calf Sale from Bruce Goldie, and is a daughter of Goldies Juggler out of Goldies Glamour.
Adding to the celebrations, team Crawlaw, also picked up the inter-breed sheep honours with a Texel gimmer on its first outing.
She was purchased at Carlisle from Mark Priestley, and is sired by Knap Flying Stocksman and bred from a ewe by Haymount Earth Wind and Fire.
Taking the blue and white rosette was the Blue Texel champion Hodges Golddust, a one-crop ewe from Jim and Daniel Hodge, Dykes. Inter-breed champion at New Cumnock and champion at Catrine and Ayr shows, she is sired by Pistyll Empire and out of Grahams Essex Girl.
The Texel champion teamed up with a ewe and a shearling to take the inter-breed group of three, with the reserve going to the Blue Texel trio from John and Laura Cousar, consisting of a shearling, gimmer and tup lamb.

In a strong dairy section, it was the third calver, Clonvalley Pepper Bubble, from Salvy Esquierdo and Robbie and Margo Scott, Shacklehill, Tarbolton that took the top spot. This Ex92-classified Holstein last calved in December and is giving 53 litres. Purchased privately from Ali Cook and John Forrest, she is a Delaberge Pepper daughter and is backed by 11 generations of VG or Ex, with her dam being, Clonvalley Close Up Bubble.
The same team also landed the inter-breed cattle pairs.

Reserve – Deaconhill Farming, Mauchline, with an April 2023-born British Blue cross bullock, named Mighty Mouse. Bluefaced Leicester (Judge: F Smith, Cloverhill, Biggar). Champion and reserve – D Bryson, Grassmillees Way, Mauchline, with the top spot going to a home-bred gimmer. Sired by a £1600 Moscow tup, she is out of a home-bred ewe. Runner up was a March-born tup lamb, which is also sired by a Moscow bred tup. All classes – D Bryson.
Native (Judge: F Smith). Champion – N MacDonald, Waterside, with a North Country Cheviot home-bred shearling tup. Sired by Gothigill X4, he is set for the Highland having stood reserve at Stewarton Show. Reserve – M Steel, Ditton, with a one-crop home-bred Border Leicester ewe. A daughter of Claycrop Cassius, she was purchased in utero of a Harpercroft dam bought at Lanark in November. Reserve – P and L Gray, Cowgrove, Galston, with a three-crop ewe on its first outing.
