Crowds descended on Haughmuir, Brechin, for the Angus Show where Inverurie’s Finn Christie, bagged the event’s first supreme overall champion of champions with a one-crop Suffolk ewe.

Supreme judge David Leggat said: “The Suffolk is an outstanding example of the breed with great character, fleshing ability and conformation.”

Mr Christie’s champion winner is a daughter of Howgillfoot Sniper, a tup that has already bred two champion winners at the Royal Highland Show, and out of a ewe by Crewlands Kinpin. Reserve supreme was a 16-month-old Charolais bull from Jack Nicoll Farms’ Mornity herd Alyth. Mornity Usher, a 16-month-old bull, is by Westcarse Houdini and out of Elrick Rizzo which was bought privately from Mike Massie.

“The bull had lots of breed character, good locomotion, and conformation. The three inter-breed winners in the championship line-up were impressive and it was a close competition between the Charolais, Suffolk, and Clydesdale,” said Mr Leggat.

Pipped to the post was the champion Clydesdale Tulloes Sensation from Jim and Louise Greenhill, Upper Tulloes, Letham. Sired by Arradoul Balvenie and out of Tulloes Lady Jane, this yearling colt is unbeaten in his class at six events attended this season including the National Stallion Show.
