ANIMAL HEALTH OFFICER - SCOTLAND (various locations)


Salary: £25,915 - £27,116

At the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), we are proud of our work.


We identify and control endemic and exotic diseases, carry out scientific research, facilitate international trade, protect endangered wildlife, and regulate the safe disposal of animal by-products.


The role
In this role, you’ll be key in helping to safeguard animal health and welfare. By visiting farms and businesses you’ll carry out inspections, surveillance and collect samples which will contribute to the control and eradication of disease. You’ll need to put animal welfare at the heart of everything you do.


This is vital work, which will help to protect both the economy and food security in Scotland.


About you
We’re looking for someone with an agricultural background, an agricultural qualification or with knowledge of the agricultural industry.


In addition, you’ll need to:

• have high standards of written and spoken English and be able to communicate effectively about animal health topics
• have knowledge of basic Health and Safety when working on farms and with livestock and poultry
• be happy to work alone or as part of a team
• have experience of excellent record keeping and auditing processes.
