FARM MANAGER

A hugely exciting farm manager role has become available at Ashmore and Dalmunzie Estates, Perthshire. This challenging role will require the successful candidate to manage the in-hand farming operation, with further scope to extend responsibilities to other areas of the estates in the future.

The farming operation runs a flock of 1,600 breeding ewes, 80 suckler cows, and covers approximately 1,100Ha of in-bye, permanent, and temporary grazing and 2,100Ha of hill ground; all split over two holdings.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the functional, strategic, and financial management of the farm and will act as line manager to its 2 existing full-time members of staff. The position requires an enthusiastic team player who is able to lead from the front as well as collaborate effectively with the wider management team and other stakeholders.

Excellent management skills, technical knowledge, and prior experience on a mixed livestock farm are required for this role; with the job encompassing administrative and regulatory responsibilities, including the completion of government returns and subsidy applications, as well as timely and thorough financial planning and reporting.

The successful candidate should be highly accountable, and driven, and should take the lead in the development of the long-term farm policy, working closely with the owners of the estates to shape the operation. There may also be potential to take on a range of additional managerial responsibilities across the estates and to become an integral part of the senior management team of the wider enterprise. Of course, practical farming skills and excellent livestock husbandry are also required as the manager will, at times, be expected to undertake hands on work.

It is essential that the successful candidate has a dynamic and forward-looking approach to farm and estate management and is keen to explore new directions and drive developments, whilst maintaining a deep understanding of the environmental and political factors that impact the industry today.

A salary commensurate with the demands of the role and the experience of the successful applicant will be offered along with accommodation.
