FARM MANAGER


A hugely exciting farm manager role has become available at Keithick Farms Ltd, Coupar Angus, Perthshire. This challenging role will require the successful candidate to manage both the in-hand farming operation, a contract farming operation and a feed stock supply contract for an anaerobic digester.

The in-hand farming operation of Keithick Farms Ltd extends to 1,000 acres of which 800 acres is arable and 200 acres of organic permanent pasture. Of the 800 acres of arable land, 250 acres is set-aside to an organic operation with organic cereals, carrots and broccoli all grown since 2001. In addition, approx. 200 cattle are fattened annually on an organic contract with Waitrose.

The business acts as a Contractor in a Contract Farming Agreement with a neighbouring Farmer, which extends to over 700ac. You will have sole responsibility for managing the relationship with the Farmer under this arrangement.

The feed supply contract requires the sourcing of 1,500 acres for rye and grassland, all of which has to be grown and stored for the feed supply contract.

The position requires somebody with enthusiasm for both traditional and organic farming and with an eye on regenerative agriculture in the future. The successful applicant will very much be a business head with a team player mentality and will be responsible for managing a team of 6.

Both managerial and practical skills will be required in this role as, from time-to-time, the manager will be expected to drive either the forage harvester or the combine as well as organising and leading the team.

The successful candidate will be capable of managing and administering these enterprises as well as demonstrating excellent arable and livestock husbandry. In addition to possessing excellent technical knowledge, you will be keen to lead from the front. It is essential that a tidy and organised approach to all aspects of the role is maintained throughout the period of employment. A strong sense of pride in your work is essential.
