The Opportunity

The post is available at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh, based at Dryden Farm. This is a key post within the large animal services and will suit an enthusiastic, well-organised individual, with agricultural experience or qualification, who has experience in large animal husbandry. Some knowledge or experience in animal procedures, laboratory techniques and data recording would be an advantage. The successful candidate will require the ability to communicate well and work within a large team. The candidate must be willing to become involved in all areas of large animal work including day to day care, assisting in procedures and the taking of samples. The candidate will be expected to live on site in accommodation provided or live close to the place of work. It would be an advantage if the candidate was familiar with and experience of working under the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act.


Your skills and attributes for success

The primary duties of the role include the following:

- Part of a team responsible for the day to day care of a range of farm species ensuring their health and welfare. This will involve some weekend and out of hours work.
- Assist in the care and maintenance of facilities and equipment used in animal studies.
- Assist in the collections of samples, recording of data, record keeping.
- Assist in laboratory and embryology procedures and the maintenance of the facilities, equipment and materials.
- Assist in other areas of farm work when required.
