SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College) is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe. Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.

As more focus is placed on protecting our environment, all sectors will need to consider the impact of their business activities in line with quality standards. To meet this need, we are expanding our team and are looking for a Land & Environmental Drainage Consultant specialising in drainage impact assessments, design, engineering works, Sustainable Drainage Systems, flood protection, surface water management etc. A sound knowledge of soils and soil structure would be expected as standard additional knowledge in support of the above.

As a senior consultant, you will have sound practical and field based experience and a wide understanding of design, installation, and maintenance in relation to drainage, water related issues, and wider environmental management aspects. You will already be working with a high level of autonomy, managing a portfolio of projects and undertaking work with clients whilst maintaining and building an existing network of contacts in areas such as agriculture, construction & engineering, regulatory, and related sectors.

Alongside developing your consultancy portfolio and providing discipline leadership, you will also identify and develop new and emerging work streams, supporting the team to evolve and grow to meet the current and future needs of the market.

You will ideally have an HND/degree or equivalent in land drainage, soil science, civil engineering, an environmental or environmental technology discipline, agriculture or a related subject, and have a strong understanding of environmental issues around agricultural practices. You will already have significant experience in managing consultancy projects and applied fieldwork, as well as dealing with a range of stakeholders.
