SENIOR AGRICULTURAL CONSULTANT - BEEF SPECIALIST

£43,189 - £50,493 per annum


SAC Consulting is part of SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College), turning research into advice and advantage: we deliver leading edge advice and consultancy to over 12,000 clients in Scotland and the North of England. Our consultancy services include crops & soil health, livestock management, business planning, food and drink product development, forestry & woodland management, climate change mitigation, rural diversification, renewables and sustainability. We are currently enhancing and building our consultancy offering in the livestock sectors (beef, sheep and dairy). There is a great opportunity in this role is to deliver knowledge exchange to beef farmers through 1-1 consultancy, speaking at meetings, newsletter writing, podcasts/videos and sourcing funding and carrying out project work. This role is based in SAC Consulting where you are expected to work closely with colleagues in the SAC livestock team, which is made up of specialists in beef, sheep, dairy, nutrition and grassland, and develop a close link with SAC regional consultants, SRUC researchers and education colleagues, to aid the development of opportunities and the delivery of work to clients. Working within an existing team of livestock specialists and SAC consultants you will be responsible for delivering independent, impartial advice to producers, industry stakeholders, processors, retailers and agricultural press, as well as delivering training courses and knowledge exchange events on to both SAC consulting staff and industry. The work is varied, and we are looking for someone to expand our beef specialist offering across Scotland as well as leading in this area, driving motivation and innovation within our beef specialists. A degree or higher degree in agriculture or equivalent is essential for this position. You must have strong consultancy and industry experience with a track record in the beef sector where you can expand our livestock business in Scotland. Environmental, climate change and carbon experience would be advantageous. A strong interest and knowledge in how beef production, the environment and how the carbon cycle integrate with each other is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to build strong relationships with team members, wider staff and industry stakeholders. Experience of project and people management would be advantageous. This is a full-time, permanent post located in Scotland. There are several possible locations within the SAC consulting network that could be used as a base with a hybrid of home and office working envisaged. Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Consideration may be given to flexibility in the working hours.
