SHEPHERD/STOCK-PERSON


An exciting position has become available on the Isle of Colonsay. The farming business is looking for an applicant to work with the renowned sheep flock and cattle herd operating alongside existing environmental schemes which are currently in place.


The successful candidate must be able to work well as part of a team but also large parts of the role involve working alone using their initiative. Lambing and calving work will be the sole responsibility of the applicant and it is essential the applicant has experience of lambing and calving work. The applicant must have an interest in developing and working with the existing enterprises. In addition, they must be able to demonstrate excellent animal husbandry, and be capable of undertaking tractor and machinery work on occasion. A full and clean driver’s license is essential for the role, alongside good working dogs and experience undertaking hill gathering work. The applicant must also have knowledge and be aware of the regulatory requirements for looking after livestock.


The farming operation is overseen by the estate owners, alongside support when required from their consultants. Casual labour assistance will be available during busier and more hectic periods.


The right person could either be experienced or ambitious young person. A competitive remuneration package and onsite accommodation will be available.
