WORKING FARM MANAGER

We are seeking a Working Farm Manager for a well-established 2,000-acre estate near Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. Consisting of 1,600 acres of arable crops, up to 200 commercial fattening cattle and a small, rare breed suckler herd and 300 acres of mixed woodland.

This appointment provides the candidate with an exciting opportunity to develop their farm management career in a recognised first-class farming area in a desirable, popular location with a strong local community and access to good local schools.

The opportunity arises from the prospective retirement of the current Farm Manager who has been in the post over 35 years. Starting as the Assistant Farm Manager and progressing over a 24-month transition period to become the Farm Manager.

From the outset you will have operational responsibility and increasing financial responsibility. The role will develop to include forward budgeting and planning, and the ongoing assessment of current and future farming options to meet and keep ahead of the challenges of modern agriculture.

The post requires a self-starter with a commercial focus, who is willing to absorb the experience held within the current team and steer the business forward as agriculture resets following the forthcoming changes in Agricultural Support Mechanisms.

If you have relevant practical experience, a passion for farming, and are willing to ‘think outside the box’, this is an outstanding and rewarding opportunity. A qualification at Diploma or Degree level would be advantageous but not essential. A competitive package, including possible accommodation will be discussed with those shortlisted.
