Silverwood Noah, the junior male and reserve overall champion led the way at an autumn show and sale of Blonde and Hereford cattle at Carlisle, selling for the top price of 4600gns.

The bull from Norman McKnight's Silverwood Blonde herd from Newry, Co Down, Northern Ireland, is by Ardmore Gargoyle and out of the Silverwood Uro daughter Silverwood Gloria. Junior and overall male champion at Balmoral Show in May, he was knocked down to Messrs Sweetmore, Buxton, Derbyshire.

Next at 3600gns was the fourth prize Blonde from P Weightman and Sons' Hallfield herd from Peterlee, Co Durham, purchased by Messrs Scrymgeour, Kirriemuir, Angus. Hallfield Nobleman is by Aaron Jaigo and bred from a home-bred Blackwater Ainsley daughter.

Blonde females sold to 2000gns twice with the first being NT and JH Barrett's Everingham Nora, by Everingham Incredibull, from York. The buyers were Messrs Horn, Richmond, North Yorkshire.

The second, from M Savage, Ballynahinch, Co Down, was Gledney Leigh, a Drumraymond Grafter daughter that stood female champion at the pre-sale show and was later bought by Messrs Mycock, Buxton.

Top priced Hereford at 2000gns was John Cameron's Baldinnie 1 Chaka, from Kinconquhar, Fife. He is by Baldinnie 1 Darwin, and headed home with Messrs Rennie and Son, Cambuskenneth, Stirling.
