Scottish breeders made their presence felt at the Premier show and sale of Limousin bulls and females at Roscrea, buying several of the top priced lots including the sale leader at €38,000.

The event which saw bulls average €3986 and females at €2772, saw judge Bruce Goldie, of the Goldies herd in Dumfriesshire, back his decision to buy his choice of junior champion in partnership with Neil and Stuart Barclay, Harestone, Insch, and Jonathan Watson of the Tweeddale herd from just south of the Border for €38,000. This was Carrickmore Maximus, a 13-month-old ET-bred bull from John and Karol Connell, Oldcastle, Co Meath, that stood overall champion at the breed's National Show at Tullamore in August.

Backed by some of the best bloodlines in the business, Maximus is bred from Baileys Ice Princess, a cow bred by Tom Bailey, Ireland, that won the overall championship at the National Show in 2015 and 2016 and at Balmoral in 2015, and sired by the 38,000gns Ampertaine Foreman.

Mr Watson who runs the Tweeddale herd based at Berwick upon Tweed, also bought the reserve junior champion, Ernevalley Mitch ET at €9200. Another by Foreman, this 16-month-old which stood reserve junior at the pre-sale show for his breeder, Eddie Lynch, Loughduff, Co Cavan, is bred from the Malibu daughter, Sarkley Gertude.

Mr Lynch's second bull, Ernevalley Madison ET, a 15-month-old son of Foreman, also realised €9200 selling to Dovea Genetics, Ireland. His dam is the Cloughhead Umpire-sired Haltcliffe Franc.

And, at €5600 Ernevalley Major ET, a second prize winner with Lodge Hamlet and Foreman in his pedigree was bought by George McCague, Newry.

The senior champion, Ammaghmore Monty, from Sean Garrett, Ballycastle, Co Mayo, matched that sale. April 2017-born, this Gerrygullinane Glen son out of the Ampertaine Commander daughter, Ammaghmore Hazel, was knocked down to Paric Fallon, Curraghroe, Co. Roscommon.

Dumfriesshire-based Stephen Illingworth who owns the Glenrock herd outside Lockerbie, forked out €5500 for the third prize winner, Mullary Maxime, a son of Mullary Intrepid out of Ashleigh Dawn. Reserve senior at the National show in Tullamore, he was also inter-breed at Dundalk for his breeder, Michael Molloy of Dunleer, Co Louth.

Also heading home to Lockerbie with the Cornthwaite family at Balgray Hill, at €5100 was the second prize bull, Carrowreagh Madman, an 18-month-old son of Bavardage (AGB), out of Carrowreagh Jolene which has Wilodge Cerberus and Scorboro Regius in her sire stack. He was consigned by Patrick Bruen, Elphin, Co Roscommon.
