Entries from Alan and Steven Lawson's Alsnow herd from Hallington, Newcastle, dominated much of the proceedings at the Charolais female sale, producing four of the top five highest priced lots to include the sale leader at 8500gns.

The father and son team whose herd has twice won the small herd in the Scottish and Northern Herd competition, led the way with Alsnow Enchantress, a 10-year-old ET-bred cow by Blelack Roger. Bred from one of the best breeding families in the herd with two of her daughters having won red tickets at the Highland, she is out of Alsnow Victoria, a daughter of the 25,000gns Thrunton Socrates, and sold with her September-born heifer calf, Alsnow Olwen at foot by Blelack Blelack Immaculate. Father and son team, Neil and Stuart Barclay, buying for their Aberdeenshire-based Harestone herd from Insch, were the final bidders.

Also heading up to Aberdeenshire with Neil and Mark Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford, at 6500gns was Alsnow Hanna, another ET-bred female, this time by Clyth Diplomat out of the Blelack Roger-sired Alsnow Enchantress. The dam of the 8000gns Alsnow Napoleon bull sold earlier in the day, this seven-year-old changed hands with her June 2018-born bull calf, Alsnow Oak by Cottage Devon.

Northumberland producer, G Grieve, Whiteside, Birtley, Hexham, forked out 5200gns for Alsnow Linda which is a daughter of Alsnow Hibiscus, a Blelack Digger-sired cow that earlier bred the 8200gns Alsnow Nimrod. This rising four-year-old heifer by the 10,000gns Puntabrava Federico, sold with Alsnow Oliver, a May 2018-born bull calf by Davally Illusion and back in calf to the same bull.

Another heading in the same direction at 5000gns was Alsnow Laura, a November 2015-born cow by Alsnow Hurricane, purchased by Fawdon Farms, Powburn, Alnwick. Bred from the same family as the 12,000gns Alsnow Euro, Laura is out of the Corrie Alan daughter Alsnow Ivy, and sold with May 2018-born bull calf by Blelack Immaculate.

Alsnow Ladyluck lived up to her name too making 4800gns to James Robertson, Lathrisk, Freuchie, Cupar, Fife. Similarly aged, she is by Alsnow Hurricane, out of the Burradon Talisman daughter, Alsnow Cynthia and again sold with bull calf by Immaculate.

Top price amongst the collective females was 5800gns paid for McMurrich Partnership's Formakin Opal, a yearling heifer by the French sire Hercule, from Stirling. Junior female champion at the Stars of the Future, she is out of a home-bred cow by Balthayock Matthew and sold to Jamie Rettie, Devonside, Alloa.

Hamish Goldie's string of heifers sold to 4500gns for Goldies Nell, a 23-month-old heifer by Blelack Blackberet purchased by DP Daniel, Lower Heathley, Launceston, Corwall, with the Dumfries-shire-based Goldies herd selling five heifers to average £2709.
