Pens of Limousin crosses from Herries Farms, Lantonside, led the way at C and D Auction Marts' spring show and sale of store cattle at Dumfries on Monday, securing both the champion and reserve honours.

Judge David Sloan found his supreme in a pen of four, 11-month-old heifers that later sold for 271.4p per kg or £950, with the reserve pen, similarly aged bullocks superceding that being knocked down at 272.2p or £1065.

Outwith the show entries, the better end maintained recent levels whilst plainer types met some resistance. Overall, 188 bullocks sold to average 206.8p, with 132 heifers at 199.4p and 27 bulls at 203.6p per kg.
