Highhouse Radar from JR and HM Whitlow, Abbots Morton, Worcs, led the trade at the Hereford Cattle Breeders’ Association sale at Shrewsbury, selling at 3100gns to Owen Bros, Tregele Bay, Anglesey to join their Foel herd.
By Cill Cormaic Kasper, this 13-month-old bull is paternal brother to Moyclare Phoenix which topped Tullamore at €6600 in October 2017, out of Highhouse Roulette.
Leading the heifers was a run from MJ and HM Timmis, the home of the Shraden herd at Baschurch, Shropshire. Topping the section at 2600gns was Shraden 1 Violet R835, purchased by W Milner, Callaughton, Shropshire. This 20-month-old is by Dendor 1 Knuckleduster, a bull purchased for 5050gns.
Heading home with same buyer at 2300gns was the similarly aged heifer, Shraden 1 Alice R840. She is by Baldinnie 1 Victory and out of Shraden 1 Alice K558.
And, Shraden 1 Alice R863, a Rempstone 1 Trendsetter V346 daughter, was knocked down at 2200gns selling to G Llewellyn and D Sharman, Shifnal, Shropshire to join the Harvest herd.
Coley 1 Marrigold 440 from Heather Whittaker, Halifax, Yorkshire, made the same money, when heading home with Thellow Heath Farm, Antrobus, Cheshire. This yearling heifer is by Blakelaw 1 Calzaghe and out of the imported Danish cow, Solbakkens Marrigold.
Averages: Seven cows and calves £1114.49; 43 maiden heifers £911.46; 17 bulls £1686.
