Some 45 entries were forward for the ABP/Asda Steak Competition which saw a win for sirloin steak from a 24-month-old, Aberdeen Angus steer from PS Millar, West Hillhead, Monikie, Dundee, It killed out at 366.30kg with an R4- carcase grade.
The competition which showcases the supermarket giant's Extra Special Range based on certified Angus or Aberdeen-Angus cross sirloins, matured on the bone for 21 days, was initially cut down to six finalists with the reserve honours going to a 23-month-old steer from Gordon Reid, Mill of Haulkerton, Laurenckirk. It produced a 372.20kg carcase and graded U-4= .
Honourary reserve was 13-month-old young bull which killed out at 328.50kg with an R-3+ grade from WAL Lawson, Scotsmill, Tullynessle, Alford.
