An all-black bull from Welsh breeder, Geraint Williams, secured the lead bid of £12,000 at Harrison and Hetherington's timed online sale of pedigree British Blues.

Dragon Blues Knight, an August 2018-born bull, from Tynllyn, Lampeter, is by Joujou de Petiti Brin – the same sire that bred last year's champion, Dragon Blues Mark that went on to sell for 15,000gns at Carlisle. He is bred from the Bringlee Volkawagon daughter, Dragon Blues Beca and sold to an undisclosed buyer.

A bull bred by Jonathan and Jayne Watson, but consigned by Henry Jewitt, of the Sunnybank herd from Gracies Farm, Romaldkirk, sold next at £8800. This entry, Tweeddale Navigator, an 18-month-old dark blue roan is by Tweeddale Gee Whiz, a bull that has bred sons to 7000gns, and out of Oak Tree Lucy, a daughter of the 12,000gns Tweeddale Hamish. He sold to Messrs Francis and Co, Newtown, Powys.

Northern Ireland breeders, James Martin and son Sam, Ashvale, Newtownards, also came up with the goods, selling Springhill Nuggett, an ET bred from a flush from the show cow, Springhill Golden Girl, a Gitan daughter, for £8200. This two-year-old is by Solway View Dynamite, a bull that has bred show winning heifers to 22,000gns and sons to 10,000gns, was knocked down to Messrs Harrison, Shap, Penrith.

It was also a good sale for Tiree breeders, Alastair and Iain MacInnes, Scarinish, Ruaig, when they sold Ruaig Northern Star ET for £7000 to Northumberland producers, Messrs Walton and Sons, Newbrough, Hexham. Their cracker, an 18-month-old roan bred from a flush from the show heifer, Pendle Knock Em Out, an Heros Du Peroy daughter, is by the French sire, Tenace De la Praude.

Lot number 13 proved anything but unlucky for CF and Miss C Beal, Abbey Farm, Yedingham, Malton, too when they received £6600 for the ET, Abbey View News Hawk. This two-year-old black bull is bred from the top show winning cow, Tweeddale Hawkeye, a former inter-breed champion at the Great Yorkshire and reserve inter-breed winner at the Royal Welsh. News Hawk is sired by Farouk De St Amand, and heads home to High Highlaws, Morpeth, having been purchased by Messrs Renton.

Matching that £6600 bid was Graham Morgan's black and white, Almeley New Balance, from Cider Mill, Tillington. A rising two-year-old, New Balance is by Pinnacle Hero which has bred several sons between 5000gns and 10,000gns, and out of the Drybarrows Cawdale-sired cow, Almeley Jade. The buyers were Messrs Bowen and Co, Princetown, Tredegar, Gwent.

Haughton Nevada, a similarly aged ET that stood reserve male champion at the Royal Welsh Show last year for Miss H Wilson, White Crossford, Haughton, Staffs, realised £6400 to the Quick brothers from Loosebeare, Crediton, Devon. A full sister to Haughton Hattie, a former reserve inter-breed female of the future at the Royal Welsh, Nevada is by Gitan Du Mayeur and bred from the Baron Du Bois Bauloye daughter, Wraithe Trisha.

Just behind that on £6200, Perthshire breeders, Messrs Simpson and Son, Mains of Creuchies, Alyth, bought HR and MJ Maudsley's Littlebank Ned, another rising two-year-old ET this time from Littlebank, Rathmell, Settle. He is the result of a flush from the Heros du Peroy-sired cow, Littlebank Kimberley and sired by Farouk de St Amand.

Greenfield Night Rider, a two-year-old black and white from Northern Ireland breeder, Basil Dougherty, Kircubbin, Newtownards, made £5200 to pedigree breeders, Messrs Coates, Stainforth, Settle. Reserve male champion at the NIBCC calf show, he is by Franchi de la Bonne Raie and out of Greenfield Iona.

Two females sold for more than £5000 with dearest at £5600 being Trencrom Narnia, a 23-month-old heifer from EA and DA Ellis, Trevarrack, Lelant, St Ives, purchased by Messrs, Pontefract, West Yorkshire. A class winner at the Devon County, Narnia is by Ballydangan Hectare and out of the Boherard Cantona-sired Trencrom Hot Shot.

Just behind, on £5400, Kevin Watret, Annan, sold the four-year-old cow, Solway View Kitty, a full sister to the former Royal Highland Show champion, Solway View Illusion, to Messrs Hough, Pontefract, West Yorkshire. She is by Solway View Dynamite, out of Solway View Euphoria and changed hands due to Greystones Kelloggs.

Solway View Neve, from the same stable and by the same sire, then made £4200 to Inverness-shire breeders, Messrs Alexander, Carrbridge. This 18-month-old light blue roan is bred from the 6800gns Droit Janelle.
