German supermarket retailer, Aldi, has again topped The Scottish Farmer’s Retail Radar league for having the most amount of Scotch-labelled red meat products on its shelves, but Tesco is hot on their heels having jumped another nine percentage points.
For the week commencing July 27, the discount retailer saw 93% of it’s beef and 81% of it’s lamb range being Scotch, with all others being British.
Meanwhile, Tesco increased it’s Scotch beef range of products to 89% with the remainder being British. However the amount of Scotch lamb sold throughout the store continues to disappoint, making up just 12% – the exact same as New Zealand product.
Most disloyal to the Scotch brand is Asda with Scotch beef accounting for 15% of the range and a complete absence of Scotch lamb. Some 26% of the beef range is imported from Ireland while 56% of the lamb has been brought in from New Zealand and Australia.
