Middledale Jewel was the shining star at a joint dispersal of two East Yorkshire-based pedigree Limousin herds at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, securing the lead price of 6800gns.

The sale, to disperse Jim Bloom’s Scorboro herd, and Paul Byas’ Middledale herd, was topped by the rising six-year-old cow, Middledale Jewel, a Griseburn Guardsman-sired cow. Jewel, is out of the Cowin Ace daughter, Middledale Ermintrude and sold scanned in calf to Lodge Neon and with a December-born calf at foot by the same sire, to Northern Ireland breeders, Messrs Brady, Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone.

Middledale Jewel was also the dam of the top priced bull from Mr Byas, when Middledale Numpty, a December 2017-born son of Fenomen, realised 4400gns to Messrs Swales and Sons, Balk, Thirsk.

Second top price from Mr Byas’ herd from Scorborough, Driffield, was 4500gns paid by Morayshire producer, Michael Robertson, Easter Fodderletter, Tomintoul, for Middledale Irishmist, a rising seven-year-old cow by the Sympa son, Derriaghy Goliath, bred from Middledale Amaryllis, a Newhouse Nox-sired cow. Included in this transaction, was her December 2019-born bull calf, Middledale President, by Lodge Neon. Irishmist sold back in calf to Neon.

Lead price for the Scorboro herd was 6000gns paid on three occasions.

First to go at this price was Scorboro Georgette, a nine-year-old daughter of Culnagechan Executive, bred from the Objat-sired Scorboro Especial.

She sold with March-born bull calf, Scorboro Rascal, by Fenomen, and served to Ilot to Messrs Mackley, Folkton, Scarborough.

Heading up to Lyth, Wick, with Messrs Sinclair, for the same money was Scorboro Jig, a six-year-old by the same sire but bred from the Coachhouse Supreme daughter, Scorboro Cancan. Served to Fenomen and having run with Ilot, she also sold with bull calf at foot by Ilot.

The last of the 6000gns bids came for Scorboro Nightly, a rising three-year-old heifer by Fenomen with non-registered bull calf by Ballinloan Jaegerbomb. Nightly is out of Scorboro Dusk, by Scorboro Aramis and sold in calf to Ilot, to Messrs Taylor, Asby, Appleby in Westmorland.

The similarly aged Scorboro Nativity, again by Fenomen, but out of Scorboro Loreal by Procters General, made 4800gns.

Local producers, Messrs Beaty, Allonby, Maryport, forked out the cash for this outfit which included Nativity’s heifer calf, Scorboro Ruth, by Ilot. Nativity sold due again to Ilot.

Selling up to Orkney with breed president, Michael Cursiter, Evie, on 4400gns was Scorboro Juanita, a rising six-year-old by Culnagechan Executive. She sold with heifer calf by Fenomen and in calf to Ilot.
